During the meeting, the DG briefed the Governor on the long-term benefits of CPS for state employees. Key discussion points included the passage of the CPS Bill, regular remittance of contributions, addressing past service liabilities through actuarial valuation, and setting up a Pension Bureau to manage the scheme effectively.
Governor Buni raised concerns about inflation and currency depreciation affecting pension savings and expressed interest in measures to protect pension funds. He also emphasized the need for public awareness campaigns to educate stakeholders on the scheme’s benefits and operations.
The Governor assured the DG of his administration’s readiness to institutionalize CPS by enacting a strong pension law, establishing required administrative structures, and working closely with PenCom. He also pledged support for pre-retirement training programs to prepare workers for life after service.
Ms. Oloworaran praised the Governor’s proactive stance, particularly his efforts to settle outstanding pension arrears, and promised ongoing technical support from PenCom to ensure a smooth rollout of the CPS in Yobe State.
